General notes
When the class description says bjj, we train with the gi. Nogi on the other hand means without the gi. Adult and youth classes (technique, drilling, sparring) follow a shared theme that switches every 2–4 weeks. Please note that we have classes in two locations, at the Olympic Stadium (Mon–Thu) and in Maunula (Fri–Sun).
01.
TECHNIQUE / Fundamentals
Build your foundation.
In our technique class you will build depth in your understanding of the basic positions and concepts of bjj. We will put more focus on the details of the position before increasing the resistance from your partner. Live rolling will also be included, often related to the technique of the day. All levels are welcome.
02.
Drilling
Active. Technical.
The class is structured mostly around active drilling with light to moderate resistance from your training partner. Positional sparring or free rolling is usually included. We encourage questions and shared problem solving. If the coach sees a need for technique walkthrough, that can be included. All levels are welcome.
03.
Sparring
Live. Practical.
This class includes a warmup, positional rounds and free rolling. Rolling is a good way to pressure test what you’ve learned and find more gaps in your game. No need to go 100% intensity, you can pace yourself with the intensity you want. We encourage everyone to learn to spar and roll with different intensities as we believe it facilitates better overall learning and a safer cooperational environment. All levels are welcome.
04.
Women and Gender Minorities
A supportive space to grow.
All genders are warmly welcome to all our classes. Currently we do not have a specific class in our schedule for women and gender minorities. We all train together regardless of gender. Our aim is to provide an environment based on safety, equality and reciprocity for everyone.
05.
Youth
Discipline and confidence for life.
The youth group trains together with adults, both with a gi (bjj) and without a gi (nogi). The sessions have a dedicated instructor for the youth who supports their learning. In the youth group, participants can progress according to their own goals, whether they want to train casually as a hobby or compete actively.
06.
Children
Play. Learn. Grow.
In the children’s bjj group, 7–12-year-olds learn martial arts and movement skills in a safe and encouraging environment. The goal is for children to discover the joy of physical activity through doing fun things!
What does a child get from training?
- Learns martial arts skills, mobility, and coordination
- Builds self-confidence and courage
- Develops important social skills and makes friends
- The opportunity to compete, if they wish
Equipment: A t-shirt and sweatpants are sufficient to start with; later on, a gi is recommended.
